SAVE THE PLANET - Jim Colyer
SAVE THE PLANET We're floating on a grain of sand in the vastness of space If future generations are going to inherit this place We've got to Save The Planet Do something while there's still time Save The Planet This earth is yours and mine The tropical rainforest is disappearing more everyday We'll never replace it.. We'd better not burn it away Save The Planet The wonders of nature are free Save The Planet Have you ever planted a tree? If the skies are blue And the oceans too Isn't this a better home for me and you If the air is clean And the land is green Wouldn't you like to be part of this lovely scene? I'm thinking of the animals that once roamed the African plain Their numbers have dwindled, pretty soon none will remain Save The Planet Do something while there's still time Save The Planet This earth is yours and mine Save The Planet The wonders of nature are free Save The Planet Have you ever planted a tree? Save The Planet Save The Planet Save The Planet Save The Planet Jim Colyer ASCAP I wrote an environmental song called Save The Planet. If I had to choose one song from the 400 I wrote to be remembered by, it would be this one. I felt from the day I wrote it in the summer of 1990 that it could be an international anthem. I need a singer who believes in the message and a record label willing to promote it. This song speaks to people on every continent. It is imperative to use a singer and musicians who render the song in the style and spirit in which it was written. My stuff is in the tradition of Elvis Presley, The Beatles, ABBA and Shania Twain. That implies snappy definition in the backing tracks and a strong vocal supported by the instruments. The song is the thing, sound quality a must, state-of-the-art technology. Even though I wrote Save The Planet in 1990, it is still on the edge. It is the definitive environment song. STP is not about nuclear threat nor the Cold War. It is a song of the post-Cold War era. It is about the future. It is not an idealistic "Save the world through brotherly love" thing from the 1960s but a practical, pragmatic blueprint for global management. It is a global song for a global economy. The principles on which the song is based are scientifically and technologically sound. Verse 1 sets the scene, present and future humanity on Earth. Verse 2 deals with plant life. Verse 3 deals with animal life. The bridge focuses on keeping our atmosphere and water free of pollution. The issues in Save The Planet are serious ones. They touch all people. I try not to preach. The song was inspired by Frida of ABBA when she got into environmental work. Frida went on to record a Julian Lennon song called Saltwater. I still believe in my piece enough to pursue it. Hard Rock Cafe uses the logo, Save The Planet. Their home office is in Orlando, Florida. I will go to Hard Rock when I get a professional recording. Perhaps we can work out a deal that allows me to sell CDs through their merchandise shops. Hard Rock Cafes are all over the world. They are an ideal outlet. I may want to use their label. I will retain my publishing and copyright to the song. Rainforest Cafe is another option. I will approach them. It would be nice to sell CDs through both HRC and Rainforest. That is the Stig Anderson method. He had ABBA on many labels around the world.
